Privacy Policy

1. General information and mandatory information

Data protection

The operators of this website take the protection of your personal data very seriously. We treat your personal data as confidential and in accordance with the statutory data protection regulations and this privacy policy.

If you use this website, various pieces of personal data will be collected. Personal information is any data with which you could be personally identified. This privacy policy explains what information we collect and what we use it for. It also explains how and for what purpose this happens.

We have drawn up this data protection declaration (version 11.05.2020-311176242) to explain to you, in accordance with the provisions of the basic data protection regulation (EU) 2016/679, what information we collect, how we use data and what decision-making options you have as a visitor to this website.

Unfortunately, these explanations sound very technical, but we have tried to describe the most important things as simply and clearly as possible.

Please note that data transmitted via the internet (e.g. via email communication) may be subject to security breaches. Complete protection of your data from third-party access is not possible.

3. Data collection on our website

Cookies

Some of our web pages use cookies. Cookies do not harm your computer and do not contain any viruses. Cookies help make our website more user-friendly, efficient, and secure. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer and saved by your browser.

Most of the cookies we use are so-called "session cookies." They are automatically deleted after your visit. Other cookies remain in your device's memory until you delete them. These cookies make it possible to recognize your browser when you next visit the site.

You can configure your browser to inform you about the use of cookies so that you can decide on a case-by-case basis whether to accept or reject a cookie. Alternatively, your browser can be configured to automatically accept cookies under certain conditions or to always reject them, or to automatically delete cookies when closing your browser. Disabling cookies may limit the functionality of this website.

Cookies which are necessary to allow electronic communications or to provide certain functions you wish to use (such as the shopping cart) are stored pursuant to Art. 6 paragraph 1, letter f of GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the storage of cookies to ensure an optimized service provided free of technical errors. If other cookies (such as those used to analyze your surfing behavior) are also stored, they will be treated separately in this privacy policy.

How can I delete cookies?

How and whether you want to use cookies is up to you. Regardless of which service or website the cookies come from, you always have the option of deleting cookies, allowing them only partially or deactivating them. For example, you can block third-party cookies, but allow all other cookies.

If you want to find out which cookies are stored in your browser, if you want to change or delete cookie settings, you can find this in your browser settings:

Chrome: Delete, activate and manage cookies in Chrome

Safari: Manage cookies and website data with Safari

Firefox: Delete cookies to remove data that websites have placed on your computer

Internet Explorer: Delete and manage cookies

Microsoft Edge: Delete and manage cookies

If you do not wish to receive cookies, you can set up your browser so that it always informs you when a cookie is to be set. In this way, you can decide for each individual cookie whether you want to allow it or not. The procedure varies depending on the browser. The best thing to do is to look for the instructions in Google using the search term "Delete Chrome cookies" or "Disable Chrome cookies" in the case of a Chrome browser, or replace the word "Chrome" with the name of your browser, e.g. Edge, Firefox, Safari.

What about my privacy?

The so-called "cookie guidelines" have been in place since 2009. This states that the storage of cookies requires the consent of the website visitor (i.e. you). Within the EU countries, however, there are still very different reactions to these guidelines. In Germany, the cookie guidelines have not been implemented as national law. Instead, the implementation of this directive was largely carried out in § 15 para.3 of the Telemediengesetz (TMG).

If you want to know more about cookies and are not afraid of technical documentation, we recommend https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6265, the Request for Comments of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) called "HTTP State Management Mechanism".

Server log files

The website provider automatically collects and stores information that your browser automatically transmits to us in "server log files". These are:

If your contact details indicate areas outside of Germany, your request will be forwarded to our certified local dealers, as they are responsible for processing your request. A list of dealers can be found here: https://www.knauer.net/en/Support/Distributors-worldwide. You also agree in this procedure before submitting your data to us.

The processing of the data entered into the contact form is therefore exclusively based on your consent (Art. 6 (1) lit. GDPR). You can revoke this consent at any time. For this purpose, send an informal message by e-mail to sales@knauer.net. The legality of the data processing operations carried out until the revocation remains unaffected by the revocation.

The information you provide in the contact form will remain with us until you ask us to delete it, revoke your consent to storage or delete the purpose for data storage (for example, after your request has been processed). Mandatory statutory provisions - especially retention periods - remain unaffected.

We only use the data entered for the purpose of using the respective offer or service for which you have registered. The mandatory information requested during registration must be given in full. Otherwise, we will reject the registration.

For important changes, such as the scope of the offer or for technical changes, we use the e-mail address specified during registration to inform you in this way.

The processing of the data entered during registration takes place on the basis of your consent (Art. 6 (1) lit. GDPR). You can revoke your consent at any time. An informal message by e-mail to us is sufficient. The legality of the already completed data processing remains unaffected by the revocation.

The data collected during registration will be stored by us as long as you are registered on our website and will subsequently be deleted. Legal retention periods remain unaffected.

By sending or submitting your personal application to KNAUER, you agree that your details from the application documents will be stored with us for the purpose of processing the application and in the event of follow-up questions within the framework of your given consent and be used before submitting your data,. The processing of the data provided in the context of your application takes place exclusively on the basis of your consent (Art. 6 (1) lit. GDPR). You can revoke this consent at any time. For this, send an informal message by e-mail to jobs@knauer.net. The legality of the data processing operations carried out until the revocation remains unaffected by the revocation.

The data you provide in the application will remain with us until you request us to delete it, revoke your consent to the storage or the purpose for the data storage (after completion of the staffing process) has expired. Mandatory statutory provisions - especially retention periods - remain unaffected.

5. Analytics and advertising

Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service. It is operated by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA.

Google Analytics uses so-called "cookies". These are text files that are stored on your computer and that allow an analysis of the use of the website by you. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website is usually transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there.

Google Analytics cookies are stored based on Art. 6 (1) (f) DSGVO. The website operator has a legitimate interest in analyzing user behavior to optimize both its website and its advertising.

Browser plugin

You can prevent these cookies being stored by selecting the appropriate settings in your browser. However, we wish to point out that doing so may mean you will not be able to enjoy the full functionality of this website. You can also prevent the data generated by cookies about your use of the website (incl. your IP address) from being passed to Google, and the processing of these data by Google, by downloading and installing the browser plugin available at the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.

Objecting to the collection of data

You can prevent the collection of your data by Google Analytics by clicking on the following link. An opt-out cookie will be set to prevent your data from being collected on future visits to this site: Disable Google Analytics.

For more information about how Google Analytics handles user data, see Google's privacy policy: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245?hl=en.

Demographic data collection by Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics' demographic features. This allows reports to be generated containing statements about the age, gender, and interests of site visitors. This data comes from interest-based advertising from Google and third-party visitor data. This collected data cannot be attributed to any specific individual person. You can disable this feature at any time by adjusting the ads settings in your Google account or you can forbid the collection of your data by Google Analytics as described in the section "Refusal of data collection".

Google AdWords and Google Conversion Tracking

This website uses Google AdWords. AdWords is an online advertising program from Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheater Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, United States ("Google").

As part of Google AdWords, we use so-called conversion tracking. When you click on an ad served by Google, a conversion tracking cookie is set. Cookies are small text files that your internet browser stores on your computer. These cookies expire after 30 days and are not used for personal identification of the user. Should the user visit certain pages of the website and the cookie has not yet expired, Google and the website can tell that the user clicked on the ad and proceeded to that page.

Each Google AdWords advertiser has a different cookie. Thus, cookies cannot be tracked using the website of an AdWords advertiser. The information obtained using the conversion cookie is used to create conversion statistics for the AdWords advertisers who have opted for conversion tracking. Customers are told the total number of users who clicked on their ad and were redirected to a conversion tracking tag page. However, advertisers do not obtain any information that can be used to personally identify users. If you do not want to participate in tracking, you can opt-out of this by easily disabling the Google Conversion Tracking cookie by changing your browser settings. In doing so, you will not be included in the conversion tracking statistics.

Conversion cookies are stored based on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in analyzing user behavior to optimize both its website and its advertising.

For more information about Google AdWords and Google Conversion Tracking, see the Google Privacy Policy: https://www.google.de/policies/privacy/.

Google AdWords with conversion tracking

In our internet presence we use the advertising component Google AdWords and the so-called conversion tracking. This is a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, hereinafter only referred to as "Google".

Through the certification according to the EU-US Privacy Shield

https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant?id=a2zt000000001L5AAI&status=Active

guarantees Google that the data protection requirements of the EU will also be observed when processing data in the USA.

We use conversion tracking to advertise our offer in a targeted manner. The legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f) DSGVO. Our legitimate interest lies in the analysis, optimization and economic operation of our website.

If you click on an advertisement placed by Google, the conversion tracking system we use stores a cookie on your end device. These so-called conversion cookies lose their validity after 30 days and do not serve for your personal identification.

If the cookie is still valid and you visit a particular page of our website, both we and Google can evaluate that you have clicked on one of our ads placed on Google and that you have subsequently been redirected to our website.

Google uses the information collected in this way to create statistics about your visit to our website. We also receive information about the number of users who clicked on our advertisement(s) and the pages of our website that were subsequently called up. However, neither we nor third parties who also use Google AdWords are able to identify you in this way.

You can also prevent or restrict the installation of cookies by means of the appropriate settings in your Internet browser. Also, you can delete already stored cookies at any time. However, the steps and measures required for this depend on the Internet browser you are using. If you have any questions, please use the help function or documentation of your Internet browser or contact its manufacturer or support.

Furthermore, Google also offers cookies under

https://services.google.com/sitestats/

http://www.google.com/policies/technologies/ads/

http://www.google.de/policies/privacy/

provides further information on this subject and in particular on the possibilities of preventing the use of data.

Microsoft Bing Ads

We use Bing Ads in our Internet presence for remarketing and for the tracking of transactions. This is a service provided by Microsoft Corporation, One Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052 - 6399, USA, hereinafter only referred to as "Microsoft", which uses the so-called Universal Event Tracking (UEN).

Through the certification according to the EU-US Privacy Shield

https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant?id=a2zt0000000KzNaAAK&status=Active

guarantees Microsoft that the data protection requirements of the EU will also be complied with when processing data in the USA.

The legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f) DSGVO. Our legitimate interest lies in the analysis, optimization, and economic operation of our Internet presence.

If you click on an advertisement placed by us in the Internet search engine "Bing", Microsoft will store a cookie on your end device for tracking functionality via your Internet browser. This tracking cookie loses its validity after 180 days and does not serve your personal identification. If you visit certain pages of our website and the cookie has not expired, both Microsoft and we can recognize that you have clicked on an advertisement placed by us at Bing and have been redirected to our website from there.

Microsoft uses the information collected by the tracking cookie to compile visit statistics for us. This provides us with information about the number of hits on the advertisements placed by us at Bing and the web pages of our website that were subsequently accessed. However, we do not receive any information that could be used to identify you personally.

In addition, Microsoft may be able to track your user behavior via cross-device tracking across multiple devices. This enables Microsoft to show you personalized advertising across multiple devices.

If you do not agree to this processing, you have the option of preventing the installation of cookies by making the appropriate settings in your Internet browser. You will find details on this under the item "Cookies" above.

If you have a Microsoft account, you can also change the settings for personalized advertising at http://choice.microsoft.com/opt-out.

Furthermore, Microsoft offers further information on Bing Ads and on the collection and use of data as well as on your rights and possibilities for the protection of your privacy at https://help.bingads.microsoft.com/#apex/3/de/53056/2

7. Plugins and tools

YouTube

Our website uses plugins from YouTube, which is operated by Google. The operator of the pages is YouTube LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA.

If you visit one of our pages featuring a YouTube plugin, a connection to the YouTube servers is established. Here the YouTube server is informed about which of our pages you have visited.

If you're logged in to your YouTube account, YouTube allows you to associate your browsing behavior directly with your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account.

YouTube is used to help make our website appealing. This constitutes a justified interest pursuant to Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.

Further information about handling user data, can be found in the data protection declaration of YouTube under https://www.google.de/intl/de/policies/privacy.

Google Fonts

On our website we use Google Fonts (formerly Google Web Fonts) from Google Inc. The company Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street Dublin 4, Ireland) is responsible for the European area.  When you open a page, your browser loads the required web fonts into your browser cache to display texts and fonts correctly.

When you call up a page of our website that contains a social plugin, your browser makes a direct connection with Google servers. Google thus becomes aware that our web page was accessed via your IP address.

Google Fonts securely stores CSS and font requests at Google and is therefore protected. Google can use the collected usage figures to determine how well the individual fonts are received. Google publishes the results on internal analysis pages, such as Google Analytics. Google also uses data from its own web crawler to determine which websites use Google fonts. This data is published in Google Fonts' BigQuery database. Entrepreneurs and developers use Google's BigQuery web service to examine and move large amounts of data.

However, it should also be noted that each Google Font request automatically sends information such as language settings, IP address, browser version, browser screen resolution and browser name to the Google servers. Whether this data is also stored cannot be clearly determined or is not clearly communicated by Google.

The use of Google fonts is done in the interest of a uniform and attractive presentation of our website. This constitutes a justified interest pursuant to Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.

If your browser does not support Google fonts, a standard font is used by your computer.

How long and where is the data stored?

Google stores requests for CSS assets for one day on its servers, which are mainly located outside the EU. This allows us to use fonts using a Google style sheet. A stylesheet is a style template that allows you to change easily and quickly, for example, the design or font of a web page.

The font files are stored at Google for one year. Google's goal is to improve the loading time of web pages. If millions of web pages link to the same fonts, they are cached after the first visit and reappear immediately on all other web pages visited later. Sometimes Google updates font files to reduce file size, increase language coverage and improve design.

How can I delete my data or prevent data storage?

The data that Google stores for a day or a year cannot simply be deleted. The data is automatically transmitted to Google when you visit the site. To delete this data prematurely, you must contact Google support at https://support.google.com/?tid=311176242. In this case you only prevent data storage if you do not visit our site.

Unlike other web fonts, Google allows us unlimited access to all fonts. This means that we have unlimited access to a sea of fonts and can thus get the best out of our website. You can find out more about Google Fonts and other questions at https://developers.google.com/fonts/faq?tid=311176242. Although Google addresses privacy issues there, it does not provide detailed information about data storage. You can also read about what data Google collects and how it is used at https://www.google.com/intl/policies/privacy/.

Google Maps Privacy Policy

We use Google Maps from Google Inc. for our website, and Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street Dublin 4, Ireland) is responsible for all Google services in Europe. With Google Maps we can show you locations better and thus adapt our service to your needs. By using Google Maps, data is transferred to Google and stored on Google's servers. Here we will go into more detail about what Google Maps is, why we use this Google service, what data is stored and how you can stop it.

What is Google Maps?

Google Maps is an internet map service of the company Google. With Google Maps you can search online for exact locations of cities, places of interest, accommodations or businesses using a PC, tablet, or app. If companies are represented on Google My Business, additional information about the company is displayed next to the location. To display directions, map sections of a location can be embedded into a website using HTML code. Google Maps shows the surface of the earth as a road map or as an aerial or satellite image. Thanks to the Street View images and the high-quality satellite images, very accurate representations are possible.

Why do we use Google Maps on our website?

All our efforts on this site are aimed at providing you with a useful and meaningful time on our website. By integrating Google Maps, we can provide you with the most important information about various locations.

Which data is stored by Google Maps?

In order for Google Maps to offer its service in its entirety, the company must collect and store data about you. This includes the search terms you enter, your IP address and also the latitude and longitude coordinates. If you use the route planner function, the start address entered will also be saved. However, this data storage happens on the websites of Google Maps. We can only inform you about it, but we cannot influence it. Since we have integrated Google Maps into our website, Google sets at least one cookie (name: NID) in your browser. This cookie stores data about your user behaviour. Google uses this data primarily to optimise its own services and to provide individual, personalised advertising for you.

How long and where is the data stored?

The Google servers are located in data centers around the world. However, most servers are located in America. For this reason, your data is also increasingly stored in the USA. Here you can find out exactly where the Google data centers are located: https://www.google.com/about/datacenters/inside/locations/?hl=de

Google distributes the data on different data carriers. This means that the data can be accessed more quickly and is better protected against any attempts at manipulation. Each data center also has special emergency programs. If, for example, there are problems with the Google hardware or a natural disaster paralyses the servers, the data is still protected.

Some data is stored by Google for a set period of time. For other data, Google only offers the option to delete it manually. The company also anonymizes information (such as advertising data) in server logs by deleting part of the IP address and cookie information after 9 and 18 months respectively.

How can I delete my data or prevent data storage?

With the automatic deletion of location and activity data introduced in 2019, location and web/app activity information is stored for either 3 or 18 months, depending on your decision, and then deleted. You can also manually delete this data from your history at any time using your Google Account. If you want to completely stop your location tracking, you will need to pause the Web and App activity section of your Google Account. Click 'Data and personalization' and then click the 'Activity setting' option. Here you can turn activity on or off.

You can also disable, delete or manage individual cookies in your browser. Depending on which browser you use, this always works slightly differently.

If you do not want cookies, you can set your browser to inform you whenever a cookie is set. This way you can decide for each individual cookie whether you want to allow it or not.

Google is an active participant in the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework, which regulates the correct and secure transfer of personal data. You can find more information on this at https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant?id=a2zt000000001L5AAI. If you want to learn more about Google's data processing, we recommend that you read the company's own privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
