Where should I place the eluent vessels?

KNAUER pumps are not self-priming in any possible configuration. The bottles or reservoirs for buffer, eluents and samples have to be arranged above or aside of the pump, to allow priming with the help of the hydrostatic pressure.

When vessels are placed underneath the table or several meters of tubing are used, apply a small pressure onto the headspace of the vessel (<0,5 bar).

Notice: When applying pressure on the suction side without additional restrictions after the pump outlet (e.g. column, pressurized vessel, capillary), the eluent can flow through the pump even if the pump is turned off.
