Why do I have to degass the mobile phase?

The liquid mobile phase should be free of dissolved gas because cavities disturb the constant flow of the eluent. This might cause ghost peaks and the noise of the detector could increase. Methods of degassing:

  • heating of eluent under vacuum
  • ultrasonic treatment under vacuum
  • permanent elimination of dissolved gas by inducing helium into the eluent vessel
  • online degassing with a vacuum membrane degasser
The degasser can either be integrated into the pump, for example
    AZURA P 6.1L, or used as stand-alone
