Find out more about biorefining with the IMPRESS Project
KNAUER are part of the IMPRESS project - an EU wide initiative which brings together research instituations and private enterprises with one goal in mind: Ending our reliance on fossil fuels!
Aside from being a source of energy fossil fuels are also a key starting material for many every day goods, such as plastics, detergents and other key materials. The IMPRESS project aims to end this by determining synthetic pathways from plant-based sources. IMPRESS takes plant waste from the agricultrual and foresty industries and turns it into the chemical intermediates needed to produce the goods usually produced using fossil fuels.
KNAUER's continous chromatography systems, our Simulated Moving Bed (SMB) technology, plays an important role in this process. SMB is used to purify sugars from plant material, allowing them to be used in further reactions.
This webinar will discuss the technologies used in the IMPRESS project and the benefits of using each seperation and purification process for three value chains - lignin, xylitol and glycols.
One of KNAUER's SMB experts, Dr. Yannick Krauke, will be talking about how our SMB technology is used for the continious purifcation of xyliotol.
